Just a little preview

Of the birthday fun

Treat boxes.
Yeah I forgot to get pictures of these before the party, so this is the lonely one left

Birthday poster for people who came to sign

The cupcakes that I actually took the time to try and make look nice rather than just throw them together right before everyone gets there because I'm too worried about what my house looks like for anything else.

That's right, this year we let Chuck E. Cheese do a lot of the work! yup, they took care of the entertainment, the space and the clean up (best part EVER!)

Feel like I'm forgetting something......

OH YEAH!

The Birthday Girl herself!

FYI Grandma Peters did the shirt (Steve's mom), and isn't it perfect??

Tune in later for more!

A 3 year old is not a baby anymore!

It has been an amazing 3 years with this little girl. And her third year has brought on a lot of changes, almost all for the good.

3 years has meant that a day came that mommy has been waiting for ever since Emarie was born. That is, her very first day of school
 Pure joy on this face

Complete with "Hello Kitty" back pack

Standing tall like the big girl she is now

Taken on Emarie's first official day of school, January 12, 2011. A week and a half after it was supposed to occur due to her stint in the hospital that week.

3 years means you're no longer a baby, after all, babies can't go to school! (in my eyes and heart, she'll always be my baby!)

3 years has meant the onset of tantrums that were absent in the first 2 years and 11 months of her life. I won't say that it's the "Terrible 3's" though, because this child is still the most delightful thing given all that she has to deal with.

3 years has meant seeing a hole in the roof of her mouth that we hadn't seen since she was 3 months old!
This is a picture of what the doctor said was "the widest cleft" he'd ever seen, and mind you this is a plastic surgeon that travels all over the world with "The Smile Project" before she had any work on it. She's about two months old here. When she was 3 months is when she got her first prosthesis put in, which was state of the art, and her surgeon is still one of the only ones that does it (Primary being the only hospital that does it)

Here's a picture of one of her numerous prostheses. She had these changed frequently, but only in the O.R. so we never saw that massive hole again until now....

Aren't these pictures great??^ Really wish we could get her to open her mouth this wide now, because the pictures we have currently are not nearly as good! However, you can still see the hole, just can't see all of it or how much it's changed. Because yes, while it's still massive, it has reduced in size. It use to take up her entire mouth (meaning she just had her gum lines), and now is not nearly as bad. Course she did have her soft palate repaired when she was 1, so that is part of it.
Taken this weekend (one of at least a dozen pictures, this being the best we could get)

3 years has brought about her first ever stats actually ON the charts!!

Here's the rundown:

Birth- roughly 6 1/2 pounds, and 19 inches- around 7th percentile for weight, and I'm guessing close to the 40th for height, head did not register on the charts (and well that hasn't changed)

1 year- about 12 pounds (had dropped off the charts completely at around 3 months old) and about 23 inches (1st percentile) head still hadn't made it on the charts
Our birthday princess on the day of her first birthday party Dec. 27th 2008

2 years- about 17 pounds (still hadn't made her way back on the charts), 31 inches- 7th percentile
picture we used on the invitations to her second birthday party

Ok, are you ready for it??

3 years- 29 pounds (she's since dropped to about 26 after being so sick)- which is about a whopping 42nd percentile!! 35 inches- 16th percentile

That's right folks, she went from a BMI index of 1.25% to 75.37% in the course of only one year! Which for those of you that don't know, that is basically the weight to height ratio, so yes she is for the first time in her life OVERWEIGHT!! Never thought I'd see the day!

Which afforded us to be able to say that if there were ever a time that she could afford to loose weight when sick, it was this time! And she did too, a whole 4 pounds (and has since gained 1 back)

Here are a few current pictures of our now 3 year old!
Don't you just love how curly her hair has gotten?? And it's the cute, ringlet kind of natural curl!

Looks like she's saying a little prayer here *so sweet!*

All of these pictures were taken in Preston Idaho on Steve's aunt Angie and uncle Doug's front porch. Fairy wings and tutu made with love by The Freckled Flower Shop *which unfortunately is no longer in business :(*

We will be having a little party for our princess at the end of this month. And we're asking you to all celebrate with us by donating in Emarie's name to the Chromosome 18 Registry and Research Society.

To donate, Click Here, you can then enter in your credit card info and do a donation of your choosing (about the amount you would spend on her birthday gift) and please state in the "honoree" area that it's in honor of Emarie Peters' 3rd birthday! We're asking for this in lieu of gifts this year since Em was so spoiled for Christmas. Of course we wouldn't object allowing her to open a few small gifts :) but our main goal is to donate this year! All donations are tax deductible and are going to help children just like Emarie lead the best lives possible!

Thank you for celebrating with us in honoring this beautiful and sweet girl's first 3 years!

And this was our New Years

Yes, that's my sweet girl covering herself with a blanket because the window is too bright (I think she had a headache)

This whole mess started with what we thought was just a nasty cold on Thursday. Friday (which was New Year's Eve) was when the incessant vomiting began. By Saturday (New Year's day) we were pretty worried about our sprout because she wasn't keeping anything down, including any liquids. This is when I called the doctor, they were so crazy busy that day, that the nurse actually asked me if I really thought it was necessary to bring her in ?? (and FYI this isn't our regular doctor's office, it was the on-call one for the weekend). So, she asked me if I could try a few things first to see if we get her to keep some Pedialyte down, and then call back if it didn't work.

So, for 3 hours I tried to give Emarie a half a teaspoon of Pedialyte every 10 minutes. Long story short, it did not work. So we were permitted an appointment for the only available time left around 7 pm. And the place was packed when we got there, not even room to sit. Thankfully Em's crazy vomiting and fever made it so we didn't have to wait long (much to other people's dismay... I'm sure they'd been waiting for hours, YIKES!)

The doctor did not believe her to be dehydrated just yet, but did tell us that he thought she had pneumonia and decided it would be best to give her an in-office breathing treatment, to which she responded nicely enough to that he had Praxair come and bring one to us at home. And we did those treatments on the dot every 4 hours. He also gave her a prescription for some heavy-duty antibiotics.

But still, our girl was not getting any better. In fact, if anything she was getting worse. By Sunday we still hadn't gotten her to keep a single thing down (including those antibiotics), so I called the doctor's office again to see about getting some Zofran (anti-nausea medicine). After what seemed like hours (and actually was), I called again to see if they had talked to the doctor yet.... no such luck! But I brought it to their attention again, and told them she no longer had tears, she hadn't had a wet diaper since the night before and her mouth was dry and gray. They said they would talk to the doctor right away, and 5 minutes later they called to say they had called in the Zofran.

Well darn it all, she couldn't even keep that down! We didn't know what to do, so I got the day off on Monday (first day back from break, was also supposed to be Emarie's first day too :( so sad that she missed it!), and took her to the doctor. This time it was her regular pediatrician who is one of the best people on the planet! Her appointment was supposed to be around 5, but I got a call at 12 from his nurse (also an amazing person) saying that he wanted to see her as soon as we could get there.

Me being the intuitive mother (haha) thought there was a possibility we wouldn't be coming home for awhile, got some things together for what I thought would turn into a hospital stay. And I was right. My sweet undeserving little girl, spent 5 days in the hospital :( Luckily this time, they were able to get an IV in at Utah Valley, so we were able to stay there this time, which is nice since it's 5 minutes from our house, our work, basically our lives.

Getting the IV in. Took a whopping 10 people to hold her down (even with as weak as she was) and about 5 different tries. But they got it in!!
Daddy got there just in time to help hold

Next day, daddy caught a rare moment of energy and happiness (sadly they were rare for the duration of the stay) I was at work that morning :-P

Yeah, and she still wasn't keeping much down at this point, but chest x-ray had shown no pneumonia, so they stopped the antibiotics and then they tested some mucous for RSV

A few days later, we were in much better spirits and finally started keeping things down!
I really think this picture says she's thinking, "Yeah, I'm tough as nails, what of it?"
and that's an oral cleaning sponge, not a sucker ;)

Wanted to give mommy a hug (mommy needed lots of these, because she was scared!)

Once we got her to finally start keeping Pedialyte down (thanks to a suggestion from me, to do a "cleansing" of sorts), they were then able to try her on a mixture of formula and Pedialyte. Once that went well, it was full-strength formula, and once she was up to the rate they wanted her at, they took out her IV, and we got to go home.

Everything they tested for came back negative, so we're still not entirely sure what caused this whole mess. The doctor seems to think it is something going on in her lungs, though not pneumonia, since she did respond to the nebulizer treatments pretty well (so we're still doing those, only just once a day now). We are just grateful that she is ok, because this was the sickest she has ever been (which is saying a lot). I think I prayed harder that week than I ever have in my entire life! And I thank all of you that joined us in prayer for our sweetie. I have no doubt that it worked! As well as the priesthood blessing my grandfather gave her.

Friday is when we went home...

and who looks happy about that??

She's still not 100% better, but we're getting there, and Emarie is hoping that she'll be able to have her first day of school this Monday instead :)

Thank you for all your prayers, love, words of encouragement and concern for our little girl. I would have crumpled if it hadn't been for you. There were really some times that I thought I might lose my little girl. So really, thanks so much for being there for us through this.

And the rest of Christmas Break....

Steve and I are both fortunate to have a nice long break for Christmas (I got off on the 21st, he was done after the 24th. And we were both supposed to go back on the 3rd, but change of plans with little Emarie. More on that later!)

We spent it

Sleeping in
Being hermits who rarely left the comfort of our home (we should take advantage of it, since soon it won't be ours anymore!)
Lounging in our pj's most of the day
Playing with Em and watching movies
And I personally, didn't wear a spec of makeup the entire week! And I'm sure I ate my weight in food! Didn't even pass out the second batch of fudge I made (Uh, sad, YES!)

We did have a small break from our laziness when we housed 6 of Diane's 7 kids for a crazy day!

Love this picture of "sisterly love" good we caught it, because most of the day was not filled with these moments ;)

Mostly we played a lot of Wii and ran crazily up and down the stairs and made up crazy tag rules so that Steve might never win...
So intense with Mario Kart

And my favorite little "Peace Giver"

And little Ms. Em just taking it all in! I really think we might not ever have to give this child siblings as long as we borrow these ones a lot!

The rest of the kids (one more, the oldest girl) and their mom later joined us as well and we all had lunch together.

We love this family!!

What Christmas was for us

*Sorry this is SOo late, but we spent the New Year in the hospital... but more to come on that later*

Christmas was crazy this year! Probably mostly due to the fact that we had so much more piled on our plates than usual. Number one being our house being for sale. We've had a whopping 3 calls since our house has been on the market ever since August. Of those 3 calls, about 1 1/2 have turned into showings. I'm not going to get into it, because I'm trying to keep a calm head today. But our house has been on the market that long, and the only action we get on it, is of course during the busiest/craziest time of the year! And the fact that our deadline is the 5th of January *blah*

But enough of that....

I also put together a little "sub for santa" deal for two little girls from my class and their families. We got a lot of help for this (for which I am SO grateful!), the most of which came from my assistant Kris, both she and my other assistant helped me deliver the items the evening before Christmas Eve. Let me tell you, this was very rewarding, but a horrible nightmare to put all together! But I'm still glad I did. It was all worth it for that rush of hiding in the car once we rang the door-bell and seeing their surprised looks as they searched around for the source that left it there :)

So, onto actual Christmas

The biggest thing that happened for us was being able to replace both our cameras (video and still). We would have just fixed our video camera, but when we got the estimate back and learned it was going to cost almost as much to just buy a brand new HD one. So that is what we did. And I have wanted an SLR camera for as long as I can remember, and I finally got one! Steve told me he got a very good deal on this, because I was worried! But I love it to pieces, and I'm pretty sure he does too!

(Steve took both of these, and yes he let me open it before Christmas, so that I could use it in time for Christmas!)
Disregard the mess of wrapping presents! And yes, I have a hospital band because this was the day Em got her prosthesis taken out (22nd)
Love this one of our little Em on Christmas Eve, more importantly, her 3rd birthday!! (Birthday post to come, so stay tuned! :))

Some pictures I have taken, I'm still trying to remember all the things I learned in HS photo, but hoping to take a small course at the university if I can
Trying to blur everything but the focal point in these two (that's a drawing that my teaching assistant Bekka had made for me for Christmas a couple years ago, one of the famous Rick Guidotti pics from SA Texas!)
My scruffy husband! This is how he usually looks around Christmas since he gets a week and a half off from work ;)

Christmas Eve (aka, Em's 3rd birthday) was spent as usual, going to Steve's work party in form of a movie, this year, it was Tron. Then onto the annual Wilde family (my family) Christmas Eve party.

But first, a quick stop-off at the grandparents Andrews to open presents since they were leaving on Christmas Day to California and didn't want to have to worry about opening presents then
 Em's cute dress!
Emarie with Grandpa Andrews in the background

Pictures from the "Wilde" party (haha, all my life!)
 Grandma Wilde and Emarie
Laughing at her cousins being silly

And then of course, we just have to open our Christmas PJ's and Christmas book on Christmas Eve
 Haha, great picture!
And grandpa (my dad) spends the night with us Christmas Eve, at least he has ever since Em was born :) He's letting her open her birthday present here (and notice the cute Christmas PJ's!)
And reading the Christmas story we opened, this one is The Sneezy Snowman (I highly recommend!), but she also got The Gingerbread Baby

And Christmas Day

The Spread
 Discovery Marble Palace
Puppets, ride on/push toy, plush Minnie, plush Kittie, Cabbage Patch Doll, Clothes and shoes (yes this was all from Santa, not all from us though, a lot was from PEIP) Yeah, Em was spoiled this year, making us think to do things a little different for her birthday (again, tune in later)

Checking out her presents! Gotta love that crazy morning hair!

Just a few more because these pictures from the new camera take forever to upload!
Flying Monkey (that came in her stocking), Minnie and her Cabbage Patch Doll (I loved these when I was a kid!)

Love this picture that Steve took!

This one with us a little more in focus (please ignore mommy, who doesn't look her best at 6 am on Christmas morning!)

Checking out the shopping cart my dad got her... going to come in very handy for therapy!

Christmas at the Peters
Finally framed one of the family pictures for Steve's parents that we had taken about a year and a half ago! But, better late than never!

Gifts from Steve's mom, cute new apron and seasonal pillow. Gotta love the handmade gifts we get from her!

Christmas with the Wilde's
Dex in his new BYU shirt *silly dog!*
Haha, just realized Em is showing off her favorite present here! It's a singing microphone that Diane (who watches Em) and family got her! She loves it!!
The Wilde crew

And...

I know I'm going to get in trouble for this, but somehow we didn't get any pictures with the Andrews gang.. But then I realized it's because the above picture is the last picture we got before the camera died that day :(

So, next best thing (or maybe better...) VIDEOS!!

Here's a little compilation of the highlights of Christmas Day (mostly of our "star" of course!)
